Marine Open House at Weedon Island Preserve

To celebrate National Estuaries Day and the 150th Anniversary of the Morrill Act, join Pinellas County Sea Grant Extension for a Marine Open House on Saturday September 29th from 2 pm to 4pm!  The Open House will highlight the “Going Coastal” marine programs that are offered at Weedon Island Preserve in Pinellas County. Activities will include Fish Printing, Plankton Investigation, the Science of Sand, a Fishing Casting game and more! All ages are welcome, no registration is necessary.

In Your Backyard: Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks

USA Today recently highlighted the Tarpon Spring Sponge Docks as one of the 10 great tourist attractions in the Tampa Bay region.  As you step out on Dodecadese Boulevard you will feel like you have stepped into another time and place.

The Sponge Industry helped build a Working Waterfront Community in Tarpon Springs that is now famous not only for the world’s finest sponges, but for some of the finest Greek restaurants, markets, and bakeries in the country. On Dodecadese Boulevard, you can find boat tours, an aquarium, museum and shops selling local natural sponges.  Visit Tarpon Springs sponge docks, a world away in your own backyard.

The Florida Sea Grant Extension Program in Collier County and Food Plans International, LLC are teaming up to offer a professional development training for seafood restaurant managers and servers, and seafood counter associates on October 2nd, 2012 in Naples Florida.
